Brain stem evoked response audiometry (BERA) is an effective method of evaluating the auditory pathway from the peripheral endorgan through the brain stem. The authors have found this test to be a valuable adjunct to the neurotologic evaluation and have applied the study to over 500 patients (639 ears) in a 22 month time span. Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) and Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) are two names for the same test. It is a way for the audiologist to measure how the ear is receiving sound and sending it to the brain through the auditory nerve. Unlike standard hearing tests, it does not involve a voluntary response from the patient. Auditory brain stem evoked responses (ABRs) are the most sensitive indicator of a retrocochlear lesion, and have both a higher detection rate and a lower false positive rate than other non-radiologic screening tests (Selters & Brackmann 1977).
When combined with central speech audiometry, ABR can detect most intra- and extra-axial tumors, demyelinating lesions, and polyneuropathies that affect brainstem auditory structures. BRAINSTEM AUDITORY EVOKED RESPONSE APPLICATION IN NEUROLOGY CARLOS A. M. GUERREIRO * BRUCE L. EHRENBERG ** Brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) consist of a sequence of volume-conducted waves recorded at the scalp following a click stimulus to the ear. The BAER was first described by Jewett and associates9 in 1971. These Auditory brainstem evoked responses (ABER) were recorded to provide normative data regarding the latency values, brainstem conduction times in term neonates and infants up to 24 months of age. 2016-05-16 · The study of brainstem evoked response audiometry provides an opportunity to evaluate the functional integrity of auditory pathway from inner ear to upper brainstem. Several studies have shown that early and adequate intervention of infants with congenital hearing loss minimizes future problems with speech and language development. The Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAEP) is a complex response to which did not present hearing loss, audiometric thresholds up to 25 dB HL.

Both brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) and audiometry play a crucial role in neuro-oncological treatment decisions in Neurofibromatosis Type 2 associated (NF2) vestibular schwannoma (VS) as hearing preservation is the major goal. In this study, we investigated the risk of immediate postoperative hearing deterioration (>15 dB and/or 15% loss in pure-tone average [PTA]/ speech
This test normally takes one to one and a half-hour.
The BAEP comprises seven waves, of which waves
The study of brainstem evoked response audiometry provides an opportunity to evaluate the functional integrity of auditory pathway from inner ear to upper brainstem. In evoked potential work the action of the inner ear is too often ignored and seen only as the necessary mechanism for obtaining responses to auditory stimuli.

As other evoked potential (EP) techniques, such as visually evoked potentials (VEPs) or somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs), the auditory evoked potentials (AEPs) are triggered by the repetitive presentation of identical stimuli, the electroencephalographic (EEG) response of which 2020-4-13 · Brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) is a test to measure the brain wave activity that occurs in response to clicks or certain tones. Alternative Names. Evoked auditory potentials; Brainstem auditory evoked potentials; Evoked response audiometry; Auditory brainstem response; ABR; BAEP.
Auditory brainstem response (ABR) audiometry is aneurologic test of auditory brainstem function inresponse to auditory (click) stimuli.
